That "I get it" feeling
I'm not sure I quite get social networking sites, though if dogster.com is a social networking site for dogs, then maybe I do. I'll re-read the assignment and look at the library sites again. I'm not sure how people who don't use their library would happen upon their local library's profile in facebook or my space. Anyway, I did happen upon this article from the NY Times about the difficulties people are having deleting their accounts from facebook in particular. Now I understand how social networking sites are viable - even dogster has adds for dog-type products and other things.

Hi Karen,
I enjoyed your comments on social networking sites. I've looked at Dogster, but haven't created a page for our coonhound, Callie. I'm not sure how often Callie will visit the site (hee, hee).
Anyway, I think one of the reasons for libraries to be visible in social networking spaces is to be where your patrons (or potential patrons) are. The regular library patron probably won't look for their library online, but another user might happen on the library's profile. It's all about what works for the you or the library. Thanks for trying them out!
Keep on playing!
Jean
I watched the short video again and I think I understand it a bit better. It looks like the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Co. site for teens is getting some use.
